Technical Writer

HSQ is seeking a Technical Writer to develop and organize documentation and training material for our products. The successful applicant will also play a role in the development of technical proposals.

Your responsibilites include:

  • Maintain existing product documentation, much of which is kept as MS Word and Adobe Framemaker formats
  • Develop new product documentation by working with a fabulous set of engineers and understanding the product's capabilities yourself
  • Maintain and develop product data sheets, much of which is kept as MS Word and Adobe Illustrator formats
  • Update and develop online and context help subsystems associated with our software products
  • Assist staff working on our projects by developing templates for them to use company-wide to acheive a higher level of consistency and professionalism for project submittals
  • Review written materials produced by staff for proper layout and language
  • Manipulating photos with Adobe Photoshop or another image editor
  • Produce icons appropriate for use in our graphical software products
  • Modify our public and private websites
  • Some video editing for training videos

Specific skills anticipated:

  • MS Word
  • Adobe Framemaker or InDesign
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • HTML (without an editor)
  • Scripting language(s) such as Javascript or VBScript
  • Ability to work with text based mark-up languages
  • Experience with at least one video editing product

You have great attention to detail and take pride in your work. You interact well with very technically inclined Engineers, and are able to do the independent research necessary to bridge the gap between their in-depth understanding of their work, to a presentation of that work that anyone can understand. You also understand the importance of project deadlines and have a history of being able to deliver your work within the timeframe you estimated.

We anticipate that you have either a degree in a technical field, or a BA in English with significant technical course work. In either case, at least two years of experience is preferred. Without a degree, at least five years of experience is expected. You must present samples of prior work to us during your interview.


Process Control Engineer

We are looking for someone with strong Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) skills and experience implementing control solutions in the water, wastewater and/or power distribution industries. You must understand P&ID's, loop diagrams, field instrumentation (transmitters, valves, etc.), I/O devices, PLC ladder logic (Allen Bradley, Modicon, General Electric) and IEC 1131.

You have excellent computer and troubleshooting skills and are adept at both verbal and written communication. Must have a thorough knowledge of device communication protocols (DH+, Modbus, GE Genius, Ethernet/IP, etc.) and physical layer networking (RS232, RS485, Ethernet, fiber optics, wireless, etc.), HMIs and SCADA. Practical experience with Wonderware Intouch, iFix and Cimplicity would be a plus. You will assist in the startup and field validation of control schemes, which includes travel to client locations for one or more days when necessary.

Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and five years applicable experience, and a history of working with process control computers, a variety of industrial processes and their control schemes.


Electronics Technician

This is a full time position for immediate hire. Minimum 3 years relevant experience required. The ideal candidate will have experience in fiber optic cable and transmission systems, installation and calibration of VHF/UHF Radio and Microwave systems, Ethernet cabling and troubleshooting, and experience with PLCs and Instrumentation. An Associate degree in Electronics is preferred.

Basic Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of basic electronic circuit theory
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics
  • Experience with test equipment including multimeters and oscilloscopes
  • Ability to troubleshoot various electronic equipment and systems

Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Experienced in Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Pumping Stations. Submittals, loop and termination drawings, and field startup experience required. Instrumentation certifications, MS Office suite proficiency, and PLC/HMI programming a plus.
